SEEC was founded by Troy Sadler, PhD

Troy Sadler, PhD, began his career as a research scientist and then became a classroom teacher. After teaching high school for several years, Sadler pursued his doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in science education. He has worked in higher education as a researcher, evaluator, teacher educator and administrator since 2003. Sadler is currently a professor of education and serves as the Thomas James Distinguished Professor in Experiential Learning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also serves as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Research in Science Teaching.

Sadler has led multiple grant funded efforts related to STEM teaching and learning, technology development, and program evaluation. He has experience as a principal investigator, co-principal investigator or evaluator on grants funded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, the Institute of Education Sciences, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and the Smallwood Foundation.

While a faculty member at the University of Missouri, Sadler founded the ReSTEM Institute, a STEM education research, evaluation and outreach center. At ReSTEM, he oversaw evaluation of grant projects, educational programming, and STEM outreach events. As an evaluator, Sadler has worked with scholars from the University of Maryland, University of Florida, University of Nebraska Lincoln, and NARST: A Worldwide Organization for improving Science Teaching and Learning through Research.
